The old city of Pingyao

We have seen the Hukou waterfalls only on billboards. The recent rains in the mountains have raised the water level and the authorities, as precaution, have closed access to the site shortly before we got to the ticket counter. Result, half a day of rest. … Today we are in Pingyao, 350 km further north, closer to Beijing. It has been founded 2800 years ago but the main buildings and structure date back basically to over 600 years ago, with the city walls, streets, houses, shops and temples well preserved, presenting the ancient traditional culture of Han nationality and constituting a historical Museum of architecture from the Ming and Qing dynasties (1368-1911). Pingyao has been included on the World Heritage list as China’s best preserved old town.
